Bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Karnataka is one of the largest states in India. With an antiquity that dates back to the Paleolithic Era, it has also been home to some of the most powerful empires of ancient and medieval India. The philosophers, artists and musical bards, patronised by these empires, launched socio-religious and literary movements which have endured to the present day. Hampi in the mountains, and Gokarna on the west coast, are regarded as some of the most important Hindu pilgrimage centres, as well as being famous tourist destinations in India. Hampi village is located in the easthern part of the state, within the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire. The whole 43 square kilometres is a rocky area and houses huge monolithic sculptures and many monuments belonging to the old city. Many temples are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Gokarna is an attactive temples town, still having traditional brick and wooden houses. Temples are referred to in a number of Hindu historical literature texts. It’s a place of contrasts: alongside its pilgrims, it is now a paradise for backpackers, hippis and yogis, with palm trees, blue sea and white sandy beaches. |

You can travel by bicycle, bus, walking or car. I also advice you about restaurants, hotels and campsites in the countryside. You won’t get lost. Each major intersection is illustrated with a sketch. If you are not into moving by your own, get a bus and join directly the villages of Neral near Mumbai, of Katgaon in Maharastra, Bhagamandala in Karnataka, Elappara near Munnar and Kumily in Kerala. There leave your bag at the hotel and visit the neighbouring . You will visit farming areas where sugarcane, cocoa, cardamon, coffee, pepper, tea and tapioca is cultivated. This book is another way to discover this amazing country. It is your passport towards freedom. During your travel you will inevitably desire to escape the touristic routes. How will you get the necessary information? Where will you find the hidden and most interesting places in the Indian countryside? Is there a road, food, water and accommodation? Are there dangerous animals? I have created this guide to share my experiences and to make yours more comfortable. I will lead you to lodges where rooms are always available. You won’t have to book in advance. I always indicate accommodation, such as camping spots, bungalows, or hotels. All these routes are accessible by bus, taxi, walking or bike. I found my way using only a compass. It was very easy. To make you feel more confident, I have added in this book all the names of the villages I passed through. Just follow my steps… |

St. Emilion, birth of a High-class wine to the Castle Faurie de Souchard. One does not remake a good wine each year with chance. It is not enough to gather the grapes. I discovered the need for an immense work in culture to overcome the risks of nature, as well as the creative process complex, original and reasoned so that each vineyard can make in wine storehouse “the” wine which characterizes it.
